Recreation Credit Program

The Recreation Credit Program, a program of the City of Burnaby, provides a credit to Burnaby residents in financial need. The credit can be used at any Burnaby Parks, Recreation and Culture facility for programs and admissions. You must apply each year.

Low income applications for:

(a) individuals, families & seniors 
(b) persons with approved disability

Applications for this program are verified and processed at Burnaby Community Connections. To apply provide the completed application and all of the following documents:

1. Copy of most recent T1 General for each adult

2. Copy of most recent Notice of Assessment for each adult

3. Copy of current telephone or hydro bill showing your Burnaby address

4. Families - for your children include a copy of the most current Canada Child Tax Benefit and BC Family Bonus Notice

If you arrived in Canada within the last year and weren't required to file Income Tax, please provide copies of both sides of your Landed Immigration Papers or Permanent Resident Card and two current pay cheque or EI stubs.

Low income applications for people with disability:

For people with disability approved by Canada Revenue*, applications for this program are verified and processed at Burnaby Community Connections. To apply provide the completed application and all of the following documents:
 
1. Copy of most recent Option C-Print
2. Copy of current telephone or hydro bill showing your Burnaby address

Who qualifies as low income?

Burnaby Community Connections verifies both the income and residency of applicants. Low income includes four criteria:

(a) Gross Income based on individuals included on the application (rates based on Federal LICO):

Individual $5,000 - $23,298 
Family of 2 $5,000 - $29,004
Family of 3 $5,000 - $35,657
Family of 4 $5,000 - $43,292
Family of 5 $5,000 - $49,102
Family of 6 $5,000 - $55,378
7 + $5,000 - $61,656

*The allowable Gross Income for people with disability is increased according to line 316 of the TD1 General. 

(b) Interest earned is less than $100 per adult per year (see line 121 of the T1General)

(c) RRSP contributions do not exceed $1,000 per family in the year the application has been made (see line 208 of the T1 General)

(d) Those receiving Income Assistance are not eligible to apply through Burnaby Community Connections. See below for details on how Income Assistance Recipients can apply.

How to Apply

You can either drop off your completed application form and your required documents at our office or mail in your documents. We do not accept faxes.


Receiving Income Assistance applications

If you are receiving Income Assistance from Ministry of Social Development (MSD), Community Living BC (CLBC), or Resettlement Assistance Program (RAP - Income support for government assisted refugees) applications for this program are verified and processed by the relevant agency. 
For MSD contact Ministry staff such as your Financial Aid or Social Worker. 
For CLBC contact Community Living staff, and 
For RAP contact Immigrant Services Society staff.

How the Recreation Credit Program works?

If approved, the credit amount is valid for one year from the time of you application is processed.

Unused credits will be removed from your account at the end of your Recreation Credit year.

Credit applicants may reapply for and received credit once a year.

It is your responsibility to complete the same application process each year.

The credit has no cash value.

Refunds will be returned to your account as credit.
